I?ll start by saying this is my favorite fish of all time by a long shot love it?s personality how it burrows and it?s gorgeous.

I have tried 5 0f these over the yrs can?t seem to pass them up when I see one eating at lfs most jump through smallest crack end up on floor just bought one eating burrowing this morning it?s on carpet jumped right through egg crate

Has anyone actually had long term success with them I?m considering working on sealing up all gaps and modding a tight fitting lid just to try 1 more time

I had one for about 6 months. It?s one of my favorite fish also.
Mine all got blue spotted jawfish disease.
Good luck.

unfortunately blue dot jawfish are collected from areas where water temperatures average low to mid 60's so unless you run a coolwater tank the odds of these guys getting blue dot disease is very likely within the 3-6 mo. period. like mentioned before, they will need a true burrow and more optimally a tank with no other bottom dwelling fish unless the jawfish has about 18-24" of territorial space in a big tank.

good luck if you buy one and i recommend soaking foods in vitamins for him if you do

Most carpet surf the one I had for a few weeks was doing great so I don?t think the temp thing is the issue as long as u get a healthy one with no open scratches on it from transport and have it eating well I really think it?s just a matter of haveing escape proof tank which most don?t have

Sorry to hear Matt..I never tried one because of the cooler water requirement. ....and no tank is escape proof. With all my wrasses I thought mine was until a large Tamarin knocked off a piece of acrylic and I found it on the floor.....
