you need an established tank set up for sps to get this.
metal halides, good flow, clean water, stable levels a must.
this is a colony bought from atlantis a while ago. it was supposed to be purple, it came in brown and has never colored up in my tank :irked:
all I ask is that if you take it and it turns purple to give me back a branch ;)

solbby has first shot at it, if he passes then it goes to the best candidate that responds first.

it's been at the top of my tank under a xm25010kse for 8 months I think.
the tips are turning purple, it's got a long way to go.
it's a larry jackson, the tips are purple, the branches are white.

I have one similar to that from Atlantis, it took just over a year for just the tip's to finally color up, maybe give it more time :) It took a long time under T5's & 175w MH before it did, that is nice of you to offer it away, too bad I wasn't closer :) Try holding onto it a bit longer...

I know with time it will color up, but more than a year :arg:
You know all the other corals from atlantis were browned out also, they have just started to color up.

Let me know if you are still offering it up. I can get it to color up and then frag you a nice size piece once it colors up..

cool I'm waiting to hear from Shaun, he was part of the GB this came from.
we could meet at greenwich aquaria if it works out.

I have the same experience with Atlantis, you pay a bunch of money for premium exotic corals and they all come in brown :irked: I like reefermadness and Liveaquariua.com everything I order from them is nice size and colorful. But to get the rare exotics were stuck with ATL :smash:

J, i got the purple bonsai from Atlantis and am getting amazing colors on it (purple with green polyps). i got 3x400W 20k DE bulbs. As long as it doesnt come with any free redbugs, i'd be willing to color it up for you. Once its back in shape, you can have the whole colony back and i'll just keep myself a frag as a suvenier.
If you like, i can frag you a piece of my purple bonsai in the meanwhile to grow in while you wait.
As you know i am down by fulton street and can meet you tomorrow downtown if you like.

here's a pic of my bonsai taken just before the frag swap. (and i dont even know how to photoshop it, so thats just the point and shoot automatic setting).

ok Shaun, I was not sure what you lost in your chiller incident.

so the list is

reefhunter
inline6
regal
alrha
alistair

I said I'd offer it to the first sps keeper to reply so that's reefhunter,
if he wants it and does not mind I can frag the back of it and give you all a piece. there's so much of it you won't notice the frags missing. you guys let me know. sorry I do not have more free colonies to give everyone

an aquacultured bonzai is pretty easy to get good color in comparison to wild colonies...You guys seem pretty confident, good for you.

All i know if JHale is having a difficult time getting it to color up i won't even attempt it. Good luck to whomever is up for the challenge. :)
