I just bought a eel (blue ribbon, I know about there poor eating habits, but he ate in store in front of me), so I had to get something to cover the top of my tank, so he couldnt get out. SO i got a wood canopy. IT SUX!

First it doesnt go over my MH light because of plugs. I currently have it on top of canopy, looks good, but not that stable, annoying to take off.

Second theres no flap, so you could get your hand in to feed my eel of mess with rocks and stuff.

Im contimplating some modifications, any suggestions?

any one want to trade or buy it or anything (its for a 75, 90, or 110 high)

you could cut in half length wise and attach a block of wood the bottom of each base of the canopy.

So when you need to feed or work on the tank you only need to remove the front half. Which in most cases is enough room to manuver around and get the job done.

No sorry no pics, but imagine looking at your canopy from the side, and cut it vertical in half and that is what I mean. Depending on the type of canopy, it might need new supports. Since, the front half is usually where the supports are located. Basically its usually a w2 x l2 x d1 block of wood.

I think im going to cut the front piece off and attach with hinges, than add some padded molding so the light is more securely placed on top. MOIDOL, your pics helped alot! I think im gonna run to home depot now

I dont have any advice on the hood but as an owner of 2 ribbon eels 2 snowflake eels and 4 dwarf golden morays make sure the tank is totally covered!! :) I lost an eel thru an opening on egg crate... If there is a spot they will escape and go carpet surfing.
