I have about two 5 gallon buckets of Seachem Flourite fresh water gravel in brown.

http://www.seachem.com/products/product_pages/Flourite.html

This gravel i meant to be used on a planted aquarium. i had this on my tank for about 2 years, had very good plant growth without having to use a lot of supplements.

I changed my tank to reef and i no longer need it, its free or if you have a frag or two I'll accept it but not required.

Pick up in Mineola, NY 11501, or i can bring it to work 10021 area.

Thanks,
Mario

Mario, I am intersted. Question, does this where off or is it just built for suitable use in a planted tank. I guess simply does it have to be replaced later on down the road. I am thinking of starting a planted tank and have been pondering this gravel.

Your question is pretty much open to debate, some people feel that it will expire at some point, some people don't.
Its made of an iron rich ore rock, this rock is oxidizing so you have a brown rusty color on this substrate.
Basically releases iron into the water and plants need that to grow.

In my opinion it will take a very long time for this iron expire and you should hae at least another 10 years of use.

Again all this info is open to debate, and its pretty much just as some people feel they have to dose their systems as others feel that just regular water changes replenishes the needed elements.

Hope this helps,
Mario

im just about to break down my plant tank and i used the same stuff. I got really good out come from it for the first 9 months. but i think it wears off cause my tank does not look as good and i have changed nothing about the tank besides bulb once every 9-12 month. Also i have another tank with plants in cup and some had that subtract and other pain jane blue and one did not grow taller then another. hope this helps. But who know it could be me and not the subtract at all making the neg difference.

ya i use excel, iron and one other that i cant think off the top of my head. But i think the reason my plant tank is not doing so well is because the PH was to high so i just lowered. Cause i combined two tanks 3 weeks ago and the plant from the other tank that had a low PH are not doing so well now, or it could be cause i stopped using the RO water on the plant tank. So maybe it really doesnt loss its ironness.
