Hey, I'm new to the club and have been looking for a reasonably priced metal halide for a 220 gallon reef. I have a 72" power compacts, but my corals although surviving, aren't thriving. Anyone selling one or any advise I'd appreciate it.

Hey. I'm going through the same thing. I set up a 220 and have been looking for a decent setup. I also have a 75 that I had t5s on. My corals did ok but they didn't do great. I switched to MH and the tank came alive. It seems that my acropora noticeably grew in the first week. The colors were completely different. I would highly suggest sticking with the MH goal.

As for cost I figured that I was going to get two 3' fixtures. That way it might cut the cost a little and the availability of a three footer is higher than a six foot fixture. But on the same token I'm open to suggestions too

PS. I was considering the LED route but I'm Not sure about the strength and wattage/ gallon thing.

Wattage per Gallon formula is useless, calculating what is needed for a specific setup is a bit more complex. This post should be moved into the General Discussion forum so it can be discussed in further detail.
