hi i recently moved to jersey from the bronx i also upgraded from a established 55 gallon to a 75 bowfront from canister to sump i added about 30 gallons of regular tap water cuz i didnt transfer my rodi and it would have took to long to make that much water i did this change last week over the weekend i went to work i came back and found that most of my rocks and some floor are covered in like a brown film i syphoned some of the gravel and noticed that the one on the rock comes of easily what is this y is it happening help do i gotta go buy something if so what:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Diatom bloom. Probably a cycle going on. Tap water has phosphates/nitrates in it which is also not helping. Water changes might help (with proper water).

You need to get an RO unit and perform large waterchanges..you first need to know your nitrate/ phosphate levels. NO more TAP

naturally -> siphone what you can out, turn off lights for a few days

I suggest red slime remover.

Dont worry. Just about everyone has dealt and or is dealing with this junk. Siphon out what you can but kill the source. Get some Rowaphos and put it in ur sump for phosphates. Siphon. Water changes and def NO TAP.

Last resort and literally last resort is chemicals.

i'm in north jersey (near fishtown usa-- 07446). i have about 80 gal. of each-- ro/di and mixed salt water ready (almost) all the time. if you need it in an emergency, i'll help out.

if you're going to use the red slime remover, make sure you follow the dosage correctly and keep the tank well oxygenated....surface movement or even an airpump for the course of treatment. gl.

sounded to me, like the advice was to use chemicals as last resort, after trying to correct problem

I would use the red slimer removal chemical. Make sure you have plenty of flow, and less lights.
