I have a 55 Gal freshwater setup with various african cichlids, am running an emperor 400 with a fluval 405. i really want to switch to salt being that the fish are beautiful and very vibrant looking. need a simple and efficient way to get started without breaking the bank. any advice would be appreciated. thanx

live rock , live sand , protein skimmer and a wet/dry with an overflow or a refugium/sump system. if you want to have corals youll need a t5 lighting system and a ro/di. oh and salt lol

You should decide if you want a fish only tank or a reef. If you're planning on a reef, you may want to do some research and decide if a 55g is really what you want. It's generally not considered a great shape for a reef tank, and you may want a reef ready tank.
