I needed a new home for some of my over grown corals, so I decided to start a frag tank. I was fortunate to get hook up with a real frag tank from a lfs for $50. I built a stand and used egg crate to build the coral stands. I have the frag tank plumb into my main system. The main system gets the benefit of more water volume and the frag tank get the benefit of a protein skimmer, refugium, ozone generator, 200lbs of live rock, etc.

Here are some pics of the tank.:wink1:

Thanks for the kind words. :)

Tonyscoots84 - The egg crate stand is removable, plus the flow should keep everything in suspension.

Jhale - the tank is 25L X 23W X 15H. I able reach all corners of the tank.

My next move is the lighting. I going to use 400watt PFO HQI Ballast, 400 Watt Radiums, and actinic pcs in a pfo pendant as my lighting. I'm using pfo cables to hang the pendant over my tank.

I know that the lighting seems like over kill, but I had this stuff already. Doesn't make sense to buy anything else.

Your thoughts

Well I just turn on the pump Dolpin 12 (1200 GPH) but it is too powerful for the 1" bulkhead exit. I probadly will use a mag7 pump to return water back to the frag tank.

well, it is 400 watts :D i would leave it high like that for now to see what happens first before lowering it. also maybe build some kind of extension around the light that projects the light down farther nstead of out. it migh tlook a bit weird but would make it work better, and not blind the heck out of you :D

I know that the pendant may be high, but the frag tank is shallow 15" H. I can adjust the pendant to a better height as needed.

I bought an aqua clear power filter to add some flow and direct filtration, but the sides of the custom frag tank is too wide to fit the filter. No problem though, I will use the filter for my quartine tank. I just put the sponge in the tank to colonize. If I get I new fish, I'll be prepared.

I finally made my first cut. I popped my fragging cherry with a green monti digita.

I will do some more fragging today.

Here is a pic of the green Monti. I chose this one because it was growing to close to the bird nest.

I'm getting a shipment of some IC-Gel Fragging gel glue. This gel glue is very thick and it is the one I use to frag my corals. I'm selling each 20 gram tube for 10 dollars. Let me know if you are interested.

hmmmm. Maybe alittle too high.

Its a very shallow tank dude. If the light is too intense it will shock everything and bleach. The height is fine.

I really like this setup. Very nive dude!! Where did you get this tank?
