I would also say the Deltec. I have heard nothing but great things about them and the customer service seems to be outstanding. I am going with one for my next tank :)

The MRC skimmers are awsome as well (I have a MR-3) but they are power hogs and you mentioned that is what you are trying to stay away from.

Definitely Deltec!! For all the reasons that Rich mentioned. All of the skimmers you mentioned perform well, but I think the selling point is the service you get from Doug at Deltec. He stocks spare parts and he spends endless amounts of time with people advising them and helping with the setup.

Price/performance wise it can not be beat! Run the MRC for a year and you will be able to buy a large Deltec with ease.

Besides its a good to support one of our sponsors.

how big is your system ???? Me I say Bubble King I have one and it was the greatest thing i have bought to date for my system. A 500 though is HUGE i sold one and when it came here it was amazing. It is the best out there also the lowest lectricity useage also the customer service is alot better then when they first came out. My dealer has everything that would be needed as far as spare parts in stock all the time. Dont get me wrong the Deltec is nothing at all to sneeze at. But i love my BK better then any skimmer i have had even a deltec

just my 2 cents. i run a deltec skimmer works great. also doug from deltec is right there if you need help with anything. takes very little power and makes very little noise.....i can not speak for bubble king never had one.. i had a mrc works great but it sounds like a jet airplane in the house espically at 2am when your wife is not sleeping because of it. so that means you cant sleep because of it

What happend to Euro-reef? I think the quality and performance blow away deltec. I have a customer that has a deltec and it has salt creap from every connection. They just seem to use cheaper material. Just my experience......

Tim, I do miss euroreefs also :D. You really don't hear much about them anymore and they ARE great skimmers. In comparison to the Deltecs, Deltecs do produce a more fine concentration of bubbles and run on less wattage.....thats the attraction.

So BK or Deltec mmmmm

I have a different take on this than most people now. When I was thinking about the new skimmer I will be getting next month I was trying to decide between a BK300ext and a Deltec 702. I have a deltec ap600 and have seen other deltecs in action and I've seen a couple of BK in action. But after seeing a barr sk4220 go to work on an BK300ext I had to think twice. Then I started doing more research on what & how skimmers work. I started looking at skimmate pictures and reading threads. Soon after I decided to get a sk5220. I thought why spend 2-4x more for 1/2-1/4 the performance. I think skimmers like deltec, h&s are bk are better than the majority of skimmers on the US market. And I don't think you can beat the smaller deltec and h&s skimmers in performance & efficiency vs. price; but when it comes to the larger ones and it take more pumps (more electricity) to run them and the price tag starts to climb, IMO its a different story.

When you really start thinking about bombardment rate (air introduced) and contact/dwell time you get a different picture of things. If I had to guess I would compare an ap1003 with an sk5220 and I'm not sure that the ap1003 would be better than the sk5220. I'm planning on using a tunze pump on my sk5220 and that only uses 203W so electricity use is very similar.

BTW - a well made air stone skimmer can put most of these skimmers to shame.
