I have been in the mood for some heavy reading lately, and was wondering wich books you guys and gals would reccomend. I was thinking of this

Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History

I am looking for something that will help with identification and basic information on SPS, mostly acropora sp.

read RC that's it
I can't believe you just said that.
Tony from Reef Exotics has a good set of books, but even he sometimes has a difficult time IDing SPS since they change so much depending on conditions. I forgot the books, but I can find out for you. Or you can ask him yourself.

You dumbass!!!! :D Didn't you notice the stack of useless Sprung, borneman, and Goeman books under my coffee table :D Really helpfull stuff (yeah right:screama:)
There is one book that I want but I can't remember the website that i saw it on. It had the ideas and thoughts of reefers with some of the best tanks and equipments around i.e. JBNY, Kevinpo, David Playfair. It was $80 for the book though. I will order it once I find the site. It's not that I think aquarium books aren't helpful, but once you're past the elementry stage of reefkeeping, most of the info you read is the same crap you read all over. For coral ID I use http://www2.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/coralid_search.php

Rich, are you talking about Ultimate Marine Aquariums by Mike Paletta? It's not worth buying, you can borrow mine.
LOL... you bought books from Goemans and Borneman. Jackass.

Not sure what the name was Chris. Does it have all the RC TOTM winners names on it? If so that's probably it. I bought those books back in the Garf days and won some in raffles :)

It's got tanks like Sanjay Joshi, Steve Weast, Leng Sy and Joseph Yaiullo from Atlantis Marine World, to name a few. It even goes over the GARF Bulletproof Reef.
The book vaguely covers the equipment used on these systems. It seems like he got tired of writing the book, because the further he goes into it, the less detailed he gets on each tank.
It's a big ass kissing fest.
The format of this book is the format I copied for my tank link.

I have alot of books, i just love having them in my collection. When i need to reference something, or just read i browse them. Granted i bought them when i first started. But telling people that buying books is a jackass move i don't think is warranted. Keep in mind folks, that not everyone uses the internet, as funny as that sounds, so YEAH books can be of value. We speak like this because most of us are more experienced, but let's not forget the NEW reefers that are entering the hobby. My 2 cents!

Pedro, I couldn't agree more. While the nature of a book will always lag behind the currency of new information disseminated on the Internet, to sell short the painstaking research, and experience of the authors of the better books ( like everything else, there are good, bad and in-between books) is folly. If I need a reference, ID or husbandry info on something, I sure as heck would rather rely on Sprung, Delbeek, Nilson etc. as opposed to a recommendation by some unknown anonymous reef board poster. Do even the best books contain inaccuracies or debatable recommendations? Certainly, but the accumulated wisdom of the best of the hobby authors, IMO far exceeds the singular knowledge of even the most successful hobbyists.
