For those who own or seen the Watermelon Chalice, have you ever seen it plate? All the pictures of colonies that I see show it conforms/encrusts to the rock surface. Mine, however, is growing out like a plate.
It's most likely due to how you, and others, have mounted them. If you mount it flat, it'll typically "enrust" like you see the most. If you glue the edge down, it'll plate. How'd you mount yours?
Mine was glued down in the center of the bottom. It never encrusted down; it just plated outwards. It'll be easier to frag, but I found it interesting. I may have to frag a tiny piece and wedge it in some hole in the rock and see if it encrusts.
