Any ideas on the genus? My best guess is Welsophyllia. Regardless, it's a really nice lavender/purple unlike I've seen before. Is this common? This thing is the size of one of those mini basketballs by the way. :D

Wow, the shape is more complex than usual. Very pretty! The purple is very nice! What kind of lighting was/is it under?

P.S. My laptop almost blew up when I clicked on the new nano fish picture thread! 8O

Except wellsophyllias don't exist anymore. They are now trachyphyllias and one of my favorite corals of all time. Especially the red ones.

What is weird is that trachs and wellsos look different to me. It makes it a little harder to discern the two now that they are the same.

And yeah, I love both!

Man, forget SPS corals. Next tank I have is getting one of these bad boys. I had one around 5 years ago and forgot just how cool looking they are.

I personally think that LPS are generally MUCH nicer than SPS. JMO. :P

With the current run of SPS pests out there (bugs, not reefers) I think LPS are a far safer alternative. Who really wants to treat their reef for heartworms every 3 months!

Good point! It takes a different type of reefer to endure the aches and pains that come with SPS keeping.

As far as appearance, an LPS tank couldn't hold a candle to an SPS tank :P

I like both :D And I never hold a candle to any of my tanks, I have electric lighting for that

Anyone ever seen Karls candle driven tank? The water motion is created by a windmill

True :D Still, there aren't too many TOTM that aren't SPS dominated
LOL maybe because LPS keepers don't take many pictures to show off cause they already know their stuff is gorgeous. But the fuzzy stick keepers take hordes of pics so that they can show them off and get the constant reassurance they need that their tank is pretty. ;)

As ridiculous as that would be, perhaps it explains why Len no longer posts pics of his tank

j/k Len :P

Properly aquascaped tanks are beautiful whether they are SPS, LPS, softies, mixed, or even freshwater planted.
