ok i have a 120 gallon tank with alot of sps and use bionic 2 part liquid for the calcium and alkalinity. If you also use a 2 part solution i wonder how much you add to your stocked tank? what is the normal dosage for a stocked tank vs a tank with a few frags? my tank is at 420calcium and 8dkh on alk i would like to raise those numbers a little to 470 cal, and 9-10dkh how much would i have to add ? i have been adding just this week 10ml of each but need to add more as the numbers are the same even a little lower so now i am adding 15ml how much is too much to add at one time ..sorry for all the questions any answers would be nice

There is no normal dosing for any tank . Every tank verys . It all depends on how much cal and alk your tank loses on a day to day baysi . So it up to you to find that out then determine how much you need to bring to tank to the levels you need it.

I have the same size tank and also use the ESV stuff and stand by all there products. You should invest in a doser and a alk.(salifert) test kit. The doser that I have was bought at ReefDosingPumps.com for about $350 and worth every last penny, energy effecient, almost maintenance free (replace the tubes every six months). Have it turn on with my controller at night when the lights go off and then do a alk. test every other week and adjust the dosing levels. Pm if you have any other questions.

when my pumps were down i dosed my tanks manually. I knew at the time that the demand of the tanks were 100ml per day of Ca n Alk each. I just grabbed a large syringe measured out 100ml of each part n poured it into my sump. I did it like clock work every morning.

Now as my corals are in some wild growth spurt the demand is much greater. Everytime I tested the Ca n Alk were low n i had to adj for both. I kept increasing my daily dosing until my chemistry stablized. I'm dosing 408 ml/day!

good luck

i have a 120 gallon reef most sps i said about 90 per cent and dose every morning when ph is at its lowest ! under 750 watts of metal halide lighting my corals grow fast and the demand of calcium is fairly high dosing 60 ml but going to 70 starting on monday as i test my ca and alk if i let it go for 2 days it drops quickly!

seems with the stuff i got from the bulk reef supply store i have to dose alot more than i used to with the other 2 part solutions . is this common? my calcium now is suggested i dose Need: 1632.6 ml; 55.2 fl oz; 326.5 tsp
and alk Need: 142.8 ml; 4.8 fl oz; 28.5 tsp
i have cut that into thirds as it was way too much but that is what the calculator suggested .
my calcium is at 400 and want it at 475
my alk is at 8 and want it at 9dkh
maybe after that i won't have to dose as much once i am at the level i want to achieve hopefully back to the 100ml i used to dose to keep my parameters at 475 calc and 9 dkh will give this a whirl ..now i have an RKE what should i buy to set this up to work with my controller ? two brs dosers ?what are your thoughts on the profilux dosing units ?

the brs calculator is used to quantify the amount needed to raise the level to your target range....the maintaining dosage is going to be different -dictate by the demand of the tank.

the volume is based on concentration of the solution.......unless you know the different brand's concentrations, you can't really compare.

i was doing the bsr 2 parts using an aquamedic dual doser and dose mag manually as needed. but it got to a point that i needed to mix a gallon every 3 weeks. and my demand was increasing due to more acro's and growth spurts. i ended up going with a calcium reactor....to me it's much more convenient.

Lol... Tom you're so funny, if you read the first page you can see that he hasn't invested in a dosing pump and now you're suggesting he buys a calcium reactor. Hey Roger, i've been dosing the esv ever since I started with the hobby. But now I'm switching over to the brs stuff myself ($3.75 a gallon when you buy it by the bulk). I guess that many people haven't thought about the energy consumption that another pump is going to require to send water through the reactor (most likely at least 1.5 amps running all day). But anyway, here's a little trick that I've found that works for me when you're using concentrated forms of the 2 part method. Take the one gallon jug and place it in a pot big enough to hold it in, then pour water into it just enough so it doesn't spill over, put in low flame for about half hour. Then presto, for some reason it seems that doing this the alk. is stronger (possibly because it's fully diluted). And still I would recommend you get two dosing pumps from brs (that's if you didn't like the first suggestion pump that I made) this will make it easier for you to monitor your levels. Start at a low level with the pump the gradually increase your dosing, at the same time as you reach your desired points. Then you can do your testing less frequently. Like I've stated before you can pm me anytime, I will gladly help out.

pauli my boy....i didn't tell him to buy a cal. reactor....i said i find it more convenient for lazy reefer like me....lol.
also the other thing i found with the doser was that at times the alk hose clogged up at the tips and wasn't dosing correctly....minor stuff but can be annoying.

Again you crack me up (Pauli my boy). Lazy reefer, uhh. This guys spends hours around his tank, daily. But you know I still love you Tom.

thanks guys for all the input , i am fighting off aefw now and have lost 3/4 of my mother colonies yeah so my intake is dropping anyway soon i will have no sps to worry about another sad day in the hobby for me first ich wipes out my fish a year ago then my tank busted a seam and i lost all my stuff, year later i setup this sps tank 6 months later all my sps wiped out due to my last coral from a lfs that had eggs which i missed and they flourished and slowly wiped out my sps man i have lost thousands of dollars soon i will only have lps and fish with rock then i will have to wait maybe 6 months till all the flat worms are dead in the tank i have setup a QT tank alot of good that did me i learned one valuable lesson yet again ..I should have dipped and qt'd all my corals before putting them in the main tank oh well haste makes waste yet again for me. hopefully by the time i am ready again i will have my doser's going i finally have all the tools necessary to maintain a healthy sps tank..when will this feeling i have of getting punched in the gut go away anyone?
Roger
