i have had 2 clams, a favites rock and a kenya tree die on me in the recent month. last night i checked my params and it seems i have a nitrate issue. i hope some water changes will help in resolving this matter. i will also look to change salts. currently using IO.

i've also been dreaming about what new fish i should get:
midas or tail spot blenny
flamefin tomini tang
pair of neon gobies
female japanese swallowtail

i don't plan to put all this fish @ once and some may go in my other tanks.

i've been trying for a while but the stupid nikon takes horrible shots. the menu is almost impossible to understand(white balance issue). i will keep trying. btw it's not one of those expensive macro lense cams.

another scare!

this morning i woke up to find there was no electricity in my room. i changed the fuse(yeah i know old tech), power came back on so i went back to sleep. a couple minutes later i wake to find some water on the floor. my display was overflowing.

i guess my return is faster than my drain. could it be the filter sock. it's happened to me twice already and i've damaged my downstairs neighbor's ceiling. not a lot but still it would piss anyone off. i just can't understand if everything is working properly and then it shuts off then when the power comes back everything should continue to work properly.

when i set up the 90 i will be making a great number of changes. hopefully these changes will help avoid overflowing and leaks.

It sounds as if you've got an overflow (as opposed to drilled and reef ready). When the electric goes out, your overflow might continue to siphon water out of your display and spill over the sump, causing your flood. If that's the case, then you need to put a siphon break in your overflow U-tube.

If that's not the case, and you do have a siphon break already, then the opposite might be true. When the electric goes out, your pump shuts down and the siphon breaks. However, when the electric comes back on, the return pump fills your display, but the siphon is no longer working and the tank continues to fill until it spills over and floods.

There are SOMEWHAT reliable overflows on the market that can prevent either of the above situations from occuring. I know Lifereef manufactures a very reliable overflow.

the sump won't overflow. it's the display. i have to kind of play w/ the valve on the return and then it settles down.

when i come back from vaca i will be doing some serious planning and mods
