Painting tank top and bottom plastic rim. What kind of paint should I use that would be safe around tank. Should it be spray can or with paint brush.

I dont know too much about paint on plastic but definitely give it a prime coat and use the painters tape to mask off the glass, perhaps use a sealant to protect the paint so it doesnt leech chemicals later on from the salt

Krylon fusion is made to adhere to plastics. I know it is sold in a spray can. It may be sold in a non-aerosol can as well that would make it easier to apply. People have used it to paint DIY frag holders and other plastic parts in their tanks with supposedly no ill effects.

I did this on my old 75g, krylon fusion worked beautifully.

Looks awesome. I just did not want to spray paint. How about top lip. I will not have a canopy. So I have to paint it as well. I'm concerned that some spray will get in tank.
