MikeC's 30gal BB Rimless Build

I started slowly putting this together.

Getting the 3/4 in cutting board ready

The sump for this one will not be underneath but behind the wall in a sump room.
I'm using 2 20gal longs one for a settling tank and the other for skimmer and return pump.

My custom build settling tank drilled on one side (thanks Duke ) with glass panel's in a "V" for easy siphoning of collected detritus.

For the glass I couldn't decide wether I wanted Black or blue so I did both.
I got 2 pieces of plexi glass and painted one side Black and one side Blue and attached them with Velcro strips so if I get board I'll just turn them around.

Very nice. I think black might look better and I'm usually a blue fan....

Whats the eggcrate in the settling tank for? Double as a frag tank?

Two fold it helps detritus settle and you got the other one a frag tank

did you silicone the cutting board down and as well silicone all edges of the board as well?

No silicon does not adhere to the cutting board.
I didn't in my 120 DT ether a it has not been a problem.
This tank has a clear view of the underneath of the tank so if it does start to accumulate I will be able to tell and clean it out.

Tried and true on manny tanks unfortunately I don't see many around MR?
I have a settling tank on my 120 DT that I would not live without it allows detritus to settle and be siphon out before it brakes down turning into food for algae.

Looks great, but I wouldn't use styrofoam under a rimmed tank man.

One inch drain and 3/4 return.

Not sure exactly how much it holds but it is a 30g rimless from Deep Blu?
I figured about 50 gal total water volume with the sump and settling tank.

The foam compresses and can push up on the bottom glass, causing pressure points. I don't gave personal experience but whenever I read about it online, it was unanimous - no foam on a rimmed tank.

The rest of the setup looks good, though!

I like the settling tank idea. Ive seen more and more around but not here. Wish i had more space. It def. works
