Another great observation made by none other than our very own KathyC (our resident construction guru ;) ). She questioned the integrity of the 2 x 4's being supported by only a single lag bolt or lag screw (both were used). It could be difficult to see in the pictures, but it appears that the 2 x 4's are just surface screwed into the 4 x 4's. The pictures below will show that the 2 x 4's are ALL recessed into a notch cut out in the 4 x 4, transferring the load directly to the post.

The first pic shows the two notches on a single 4 x 4. The second pic, you can see the 4 x4 post on the right has the flush 2 x 4 running through it. BTW, underneath each tank are two - 2 x 4 joists running front to back with two joist hangers supporting each one (to prevent any sag on the plywood).

I would feel very comfortable putting the full weight of a 2000 gallon tank on these stands.

Thanks for scrutinizing the construction. Don't stop. It's easier to fix a mistake now rather than later.

For a minute I thought it was russ's foot on that top bunk. Figured you were in for your normal afternoon nap. . .

Looking good.

Is the cinderblock wall an outside wall? if it is, have you thought about some sheets of styro?

Lets set the record straight, my naps are not normal and they are not limited to afternoon's :anger2:

The concrete block walls are my exterior foundation walls. And we have discussed using 1" sheets of styro. The tanks on the left in the pix are on the wall facing the driveway (completely above grade). The tanks on the wall to the right are 1/4-1/2 below grade. The ground elevation runs from the corner of the walls up the wall to the right about 1/2 way up.

FYI, I also built an airlock in the garage to the outside. The door in the pic was just added to create the vestibule. Those walls in the airlock are insulated as well.

I'm having a pellet stove installed in the other half of the basement for heat. We'll keep the door to the garage open from the basement for the heat to transfer in. In the pix you can see a raised tile platform (where the tools are sitting  ). That is actually the hearth pad.

I was wondering what the tiles were, I thought you built some funky 70's type table.

Russ what does the wood stove burn? what are pellets? how long do they last? what if you go away?
