This afternoon, I received my new 4' 150g. tank and stand that has undergone a radical transformation via totally restored and refinished cabinetry work at the hands of MR member Tosiek and his family woodworking business. They did a phenomenal job that the picture does no justice whatsoever.

A little background-- The tank is custom built by a former Pratt student Chris Pulvino, who found a way to effectively bond starpphire glass to acrylic and thus has 3 glass sides and an acrylic back and bottom.( don't ask, I don't know) He has built many tanks over the years, but this was his first ( and consequently most overbuilt) and served as his personal tank for years. It has been in storage for a few years and he needed to find a home for it, and donated it to Pratt a few months back. He never had time to fully finish the woodwork, and storage took its toll too, but now it has finally gotten the proper attention it deserves.

The plan is to replace my 72g. Bowfront Clam and Anemone tank with this system and in turn donate the bowfront to my son's school.

Tank dimensions are 48" x 24" x 32" and the stand is 34" tall. I probably won't end up using the canopy. I'll keep you posted.

Wow Randy, interesting how Chris found a way to bond acrylic with glass and withstand extensive pressure.

I've always seen acrylic siliconed to glass as overflows, backgrounds but never as a working side of an aquarium.

Not sure yet Tony:) This move is not as dramatic as the 72g. is not really heavily stocked, but you are more than welcome to help.

Warren- I was quite surprised too when he told me about it... even more so when I finally saw it. I think he did extensive materials research including hours on the phone with silicone manufacturers.

Very nice Randy. Interesting dimensions for a 150. Get your mask and snorkel ready for deep water maintenance ;) Or at least get an 'armpit glove' :lol2:

Please announce the tank 'flip' date so I can put it on my calender.

Jon, the bow is in the office, not at home and you have seen it. There are pics of the tank somewhere on MR... the clam thread maybe. BTW, I do have a 75g. at home that few have seen:) It used to be a heavily developed SPS reef, but it crashed a few years back and has been really quite underwhelming ( read algae swamp) for too long ( no real time to deal with it), BUT it has recently been rehabilitated and is now my covered fairy wrasse tank that houses my most prized fish... still not much of a reef though by design-- 'shrooms and Zoanthids and such.
