Guys, hello and good evening
I now have my new tank (whoop). You all probably relalise how excited I am, like bing a kid again
It is 78" x 24" x 30" (deep)
I have taken the advice of Si, from Reef Eden
Visit Reef-Eden at http://website.lineone.net/~espsrg/
I have plumbed for both an open and closed loop system ,with the sump being feb by two durso standpipes (thanks Rich) and returned by 2 Aquabee 3000 obtained excellent price from Aquaristikshop.com.
I am also going to run 4 Aquabee 3000's as 4 closed loops simply to move the water about. Two which will be fed back in the two back corners using 22mm pipe and 3 Ts each. The other 2 will form a rock flushing system as outlined by Si on the Reef Eden site (once again Si thanks for advice).
I have also installed a front reef system which allows water from the front bottom of the tank to be moved back into the main water columns (hopefully)
My stocking is mainly going to be fish to be honest, as that is where most of my experience lies, however a totaly invertabrate free environment looks barren (especially to a diver with 8 years experience) so I intend to keep the stocking figures realistically low and plumb for mushroom anemones Calis etc), button type polys (zoanthids) etc, rather than the higher life type corals etc.
My main filtration, however will not be live rock based (
) I know but its simply out of my price range considering the gallonage to rock ratio recommended. I am of course using the rock from my exisating 40 G tank so it wont be entirely free of life
Additionally I will be adding about 40kg of living rock once its up to temp
Im still waiting on the egg crate material to make base on which rock work will sit, but I have plumbed for using Living Rock supported in a loose open type arrangement by 1/2" pipework.
Front showing two main structures (or at least where they will be)
I am going to filter by way of the following:
1 x (as big as possible) aerofoamer skimmer (probably a DIY) or rather a DIBMF (do it by my Friend)
I have also purchased the 3 x Cleartides CT1200 Fluid Sand filters, which I will then use to feed a 2 1/2 ft trickle tower (mainly for reoxygenation of the depleted O2 rather than filtration),
Finally I have also included a 15x 15 x 15 tank which I intend to convert to a DSB or Algae refugium, fed from the main tank by a small canister (empty of media), but with its overflow going to the sump for return to the tank (avoiding all the filtration above).
Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Alpha
