G'Day,

I have been a reef owner for about 7 years now. I want to take a moment and thank reefs.org for having a nice place for us all to talk. About a year ago I had to tear down my 6 year old reef which was absolutely stunning until my hood failed on me and I could not get a replacement fast enough and red algae set in.

Needless to say it was horrible to watch years of enjoyment widdle and die. I took a year off and have decided to get back into it. I am going to list my new hood specifications for a 140 gallon 48x24x28 tank to see what everyone thinks about it.

Please let me know what you would change and why. Please indicate if you are pleased with my decision or feel that I missed something.

I appreciate everyone's help with this. I want to be sure I get the best of the best.

****************************************

Here are the hood specs:

ZKPXFX4-2 .PFO 48 IN LIGHTING SYSTEM*+$34.00Shipping* $373.00 $373.00

ZZLTMHUPPFF42IC .PFF42IC $85.00 $85.00

ZZLTMHUPPFWP2 .PFWP2 $20.00 $20.00

ZZLTMHUPPFIC430 .PFIC430 $160.00 $160.00

PF1812 .PFO 400W DUAL MH BALLAST*+$25.00Shipping* $189.95 $189.95

MB8411 400W 10000K METAL HALIDE BULB - GERMAN $99.95 $199.90

UF3481 .URI 48 INCH VHO AQUA-SUN BULB $24.00 $48.00

Total: $1075.85

This would be a 48" fixture with two 400W metal halide with 10,000K German Bulbs (run on a PFO Dual ballast) , two 110W Super Actinic VHO lamps (on an IceCap 430 ballast) and two IceCap 4" fans. Shipping charges for UPS Ground Service is included in the price above and the only additional charge is $4.20 for shipping insurance.

Please note that the price above does not include the MoonLight: which I will be adding two for $95. As each Moonlite is installed on the mogul socket assembly, PFO would only be able to add two Moonlights to the fixture.

Thanks for your time everyone.. I will requesting how people feel as well about the skimmer I have chosen too. In fact let me put it here and see what you think about it as well

***************************************

Skimmmer Specs:

The Turboflotor 1.000 multi is the most versatile of the Aqua Medic skimmers. It can be used as hang on, fixed outside of the aquarium frame as well as inside or outside of a filter sump in the cabinet. In the hang on mode, only the venturi pump is placed in the aquarium itself. It consists of a venturi pump with needle wheel, the skimmer itself with a conical foam cup with lid and 2 outflow boxes for directing the outlet back to the aquarium. If used as a hang on skimmer please allow at least 10" behind tank for installation.

120-250 gallons

$220.00

Hi frozenecho, and welcome to Reefs.org!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I'm glad your getting back in the hobby.

Those lights sound outstanding. You should be able to keep anything with that setup.

I am not fimilar with the skimmer so I can't comment on that.

That setup sounds terrific. If I were you though, I'd consider getting a Euroreef skimmer for your tank instead. Model CS6-2 is what I use for my 48x24x24. It's an outstanding performer and simple to use (better and easier then the Turboflotor). It's more expensive obviously, but it's a high value skimmer for the quality and performance you get. You don't seem like a person who skimps anyhow ;)

BTW, the members tank specification is designed for people to post their existing setups so they don't have to keep posting system specs everytime they ask a question :)

If you have questions concerning opinion, I recommend you post it in the General Discussion Forum. It'll get a lot more responses there.
