My Aquarium is 48"x18"x18"
It's filtered using a wet/dry trickle filter system force fed at about 800 gallons an hour by 2 aquaclear 802 powerheads with filter attachments.
The water is forced into two compartments above the tank containing filter fibre on top and bioballs underneath.It is then gravity fed back into the tank.
The sump itself contains another 2 aquaclear 802's one running the in sump protein skimmer the other running the home made coil denitrifyer.
The tank has been running for just over a year with no obvious problems (yet) So far the tank has been pretty well self sustaining.
I've chosen to go for mechanical filtration due to the cost of synthetic sea salt and limited time for maintenance.
Current stats are
Ammonia: nil
Nitrites: nil
Nitrates: less than 12.5mg/l
Salinity: 1.022
Ph: 8.2
Lighting consists of
2 48" Coral Life 50/50 tubes
1 36" Arcadia Marine Blue tube
At the moment it's a fish only tank with
1 8" Harlequin Tuskfish
2 "Black and White" clowns (ocellaris)
5 Yellow Tailed Damsels
2 Humbugs
& Half a Yellow Tang, which I have to keep alive cause my Girlfriend named it.
(When it was first setup "Harley" the tuskfish decided to rip his tail and dorsal fin off) The tail fin is growing back slowly but his dorsal fin I'm sad to say ain't comin back.
The tank was set up as an experiment and seems to be coping beyond expectations (bar the red slime which i'm hoping to fix by raising the salinity to about 1.025). Next Step is Live Rock and Coral. Water Changes are down to about once every 3 months and only 5 gallons which is enough to reduce the red slime buildup on the marble chip substrate.
