I setup my tank last weekend here are some pics of the build.
After being shocked twice with my old tank and never being able to reach the plug I took this opportunity to put in a GFCI
We had to take the back board off the stand to get the sump under the tank
Here is the tank on the new stand sort of where it is going to be.
I decided to go the play sand route. Here is my friend filling the tank with sand.
The painful process of putting RO/DI water in the tank. It took about 28 hours to get enough water.
We mounted the power strip on the top back of the stand. There is another one on the other side. I also put a ball valve on the return so I can turn it off if required. This was a last minute decission and am very happy I did it. At the bottom left is my Euro-Reef RS135.
We mounted my 1 250W MH on the top of the hood with the ballast next to it. I still have to order another one.
Lights all plugged in
With a toddler running around and another one on the way I needed to ensure no little hands or foriegn objects get into the sump. We put child prood locks on the doors.
Once the tank was almost full I added several heaters, 2 Koralia 4's and 1 Seio 620, to help get the temp up.
My 30 gallon tank inhabitants awiting transfer to the new tank.
Here is a pic of my Calcium Reactor setup. I had orginally bought the 500 gallon CR at Big Als Tent sale which they claimed was used once for a show. I got it for $100.00. Today I filled it with water and the water just came pouring out around the pump. The entire pump case was cracked. I took it back and they gave me my money back. So I picked up the 250 since I only bought the other one because of the price.
With the skimmer section of the sump finally full I was able to give my Euro-Reef RS-135 a test drive.
The tank finally up and running at 1:00 am Monday morning.
MMMMMM Skimate. Looks mostly to be sand type particles.
I was not planning on moving the fish into the tank for another day but my blue tang's black stripe had turned almost white and was really stressing in the rubbermaid.
I started to acclimate the fish and finally moved them to the new tank. The tangs stripe turned back to black in almost 15 minutes. I was blown away by this.
If you look at the rubbermaid picture in the previous post you may be able to see a tile on the left side. This is for the clownfish eggs. They had a full batch on the tile which they laid the night before. After a long discussion with others I decided to move them the day after laying the eggs instead of before. It was thought and yet to be proven that doing so in this mannor may have less of an impact on the fishes spawning cycle. I will have to wait until this weekend to see if they lay the next clutch on time. I have since hatched this batch and they are doing very well.
My overflow return to the sump was really loud as the water entered the sump. I had chosen a MAG 9.5 as my return pump and it may be a little much for my sump to handle.
Here is a pic of the water flow.
I went out and purchased another ball valve and put it on the return side to dial my flow back a little. You can see a comparison between the full flow and the restricted flow.
I have to calcium test kit currently and when I got my order they were backordered. I am targeting an alk of 10. I started at 7.3 with the calcium reactors set at 1 CO2 bubble every 3 seconds and 60 dps effluent. After 5 days it went to 11.2. I then tuned the reactor to be 1 CO2 bubble every 6 seconds and 30 dps effluent. The next day the alk stayed at 11.2. I will test again tonight to see what the value is.
I recieved my shipment from JLAquatics on Monday night. The shipment included a 250W IceCap ballast, reflector and XM20K bulb. 2 Phosban reactors, 1 mj400, Carbon and opti-phos. I have since installed the 2nd light and the Phosban reactors.
So the current setup is as follows.
2 X 250W MH XM20K Icecap
1 X Euro-Reef RS135 Skimmer
2 X Phosban Reactors - 1 Carbon - 1 Phosphate removal
1 X 250 Gallon Coralife Calcium Reactor
1 X Seio 620
2 X Koralia 4's
1 X Mag 9.5 return.
2 X Mated and Breeding Occelaris Clowns
1 X Blue Tang
6 X Blue-Green Chromis
1 X Clam (unsure what kind)
1 X Coral Banded Shrimp
3 X BTA
Several snails and hermits.
Several Poccilipora coral.
1 X unknown colour CAP.
1 X Red Milli
1 X Unknown Milli
Most of my corals had died in my previous setup because of a Cyano problem and with all the work I was putting into breeding my clowns and kind of let my tank go. I plan to take a little more care for this tank.
