A few weeks ago I decided it was time to jump back into the hobby. Starting new would give me the opportunity to correct all of the mistakes I made a few years ago when I setup my last reef which was a 90G. I've taken this build very slow and am finally hoping to see water inside the tank within the next 2 weeks or so. Below are the specs of the tank and the last 2 weeks of work I've been doing.

1000 Island Aquarium custom 30X30X18 rimless cube with starphire on 3 sides.
Custom built stand.

After the frame was built I looked for someone with knowledge of finishing a frame of this sort and while I found many people who were more than willing to help I realized the frame was too big to fit out the door of my apartment :supermad: so I decided to give skinning the frame myself a shot!

You can also see the tank finally was finished and I am very pleased with the way it turned out. The silicone is not sloppy and the joints look very well done. I also received my custom acrylic sump and added a power unit inside the stand.

Today I finished mounting the door, staining the top trim for the stand (still needs 2 coats of poly, that's why the color doesn't look the same as the rest of the stand) and have begun plumbing the tank. More pics to come but this is where I'm currently at.

The tank dimensions are 30X30X18 so I'm going to start out with one MP40 which I think should be more than enough flow. If I were going to use 2 Vortechs I would put them on each side of the tank to create a wave with the flow.

Tank has moved into it's final resting place, plumbing completely finished, hung light over tank as well as refugium light inside stand. Will test for leaks tomorrow once all the plumbing fully cures and will hopefully be adding water Tuesday!

Light Fixture: Pacific Sun 120W LED Master

nice clean build. Have you thought of maybe putting it up against the white wall and having a 3 side viewable? I say this because i have a cube that i put against the wall exactly like you did. I later tore the whole thing down and tried the three side viewable and love it. Easier maintenance (cleaning the glass), coral placement, and it feels like you have 3 tanks.

I did think about putting it against the white wall to have three sides viewable but with the size of my current living room and where the windows are placed it would be hard to set it up like that. Any who the tank is finally full and running some carbon to clear up the cloudiness. All of these photos have been taken with my BB I'll have better ones when I actually begin to stock it. I'm hoping to have LR in the tank by Tuesday/Wednesday.
