Yea I'm not digging it...but what can ya do? I already have it. I dont believe my cannot does that though. Tge top part is hinged, but thats where you mount tge lights. Tge front panel isn't hinged. Maybe I'll cut the front and add some hinges but that sounds like a bad idea

So you are making your own LED's?

Which canopy is it? I didn't see it in the pictures. I would cut holes in the front of the canopy and put hinges on the wood you cut out, if it's a bad idea because of structural support all you would have to do is get some small pieces of 2x4 or something for additional support (this depends on the canopy you have).

CREE LEDs 60W x2

So they've came in. Here's the unpacking. More pictures to follow:

They were just like I expected, albeit slightly heavier than I anticipated.

These things are very well built. Very large heat sink, but I think it is overkill. But you never know I guess.

Each one includes timers. Unfortunately, I got the ones with a single powercord, so I can't adjust the blues separately from the whites. It wont bother me since I'm going to get some more lights.

Overall, I'm very surprised how bright these can be at 60W. I do think that the potentiometer (dimming device) could be made slightly better. There is a large jump from 95% to 100% so if you need to adjust between those values, it would be difficult. Running it through my killawatt, at minimum levels it is far under 10W. Turning the knob to 95% each is about 50-55W, and jumps to 70W-ish. These cree leds are supposed to be 3W each, so I guess it's pushing it harder than rated for at 100%.

Also included are some more frag pics!

Any IDs on the Zoas would be appreciated!

LEDs INSTALLED

So I've cut holes on top of the canopy. It's currently just sitting on the canopy, but I'll secure them later on with some braces or something. The first two pictures shows the difference between the LEDs and Wingo's generous T5 loaner. I don't remember what setting I put the LEDs on but more pictures will follow tomorrow.

I will post more "natural" colors tomorrow.

When you are replacing the T5 with the LED, remember to light acclimate. The Max of these LED could be 4 times as high as the T5 I loaned you.

Do either of these
1)Angle the LED a little toward the center to eliminate the center brace shadow.
2)Move the two LEDs closer to the center until the shado goes away and tilt to the side.

BTW that's a funny canopy that you open from the top.

So tragedy stuck today. My midas decided to jump in the overflow. I spent an hour trying to get him out but could not...sigh..

I've drained the overflow twice, hoping to be able to scoop him up. Nope,

It kept hiding behind my durso and the side. The durso is relatively large, and my hands cannot fit in the nooks and crannies.

I'll try again tomorrow with a different approach. I'll stuff all the corners with filterfloss, so it will have nowhere to go.

A few more pictures

Just thought I would share 2 more pictures.

First is just my small 3 clam collection.

2nd is a pink acro colony. Showing off my acro crab that symbiotically stays in it. Never wanders off.

If you have a small pump like a maxijet put it in the overflow. The pressure it makes will make the fish swim downwards where u can net it. Trust me I did it to catch 2 small chromis.
