I would first off like to introduce myself as I am new to Manhatten Reefs... my name is Neal, I am from CT, and I thought I would start a tank thread of my system...
I have had my current system setup for jus under a year now and I have been keeping saltwater since April of 2006... I am a very active hobbyist as I try to do alot of research, love to converse with others about reefing, and very much enjoy looking after my own system and livestock... I am looking to keep many kinds of sps as well as zoa's and clams, to have them grow out into some nice and big beautiful colonies in the coming months/years with any luck and some good diligence... As well as hopefully have a small frag farm in the not so soon future... I do not have the traditonal reef tank look nor do i even consider it a reef tank at all... My efforts and focus are the corals... well, and my prized Purple Tang, Sixline Wrasse and a few clams here and there too... my basic beliefs in husbandy and methods are as follows...
t5's, shallow tanks (21" or less imo), barebottom, lots of skimming, using carbon, and very high flow, circulation, and turnover... I also believe less is more, and simpler is better... but that is just me...
At this time, my system is comprised of the following...
SYSTEM: 75g RR Barebottom Sps/Zoa/Clam Display w/ 2 Vortech MP40s, 8 bulb 48" t5 Teklight (4 ATI Blue Plus, 2 ATI True Actinics, 2 ATI Aquablue Special) & Mag Drive 9.5 return pump... 40g breeder Invert & Live Rock Refugium w/ Mag Drive 7 return pump... 40g breeder Sump w/ Reef Octopus 300 Extreme dual pump skimmer, Finnex 300 watt submersible heater & 2 BRS media reactors (carbon only) fed w/ Mag Drive 3.5 pump
DISPLAY: 30 Sps, 9 Zoa & 4 Paly species, Purple Tang, Sixline Wrasse, 3" Crocea Clam, 5" Maxima Clam, 15 Turbo Snails, 6 Blue Porcelain Crabs
REFUGIUM: Purple Reef Lobster, Arrow Crab, Tiger Conch, Fancy Brittle Star, Blue Coral Banded Shrimp
I will post a few pics of my system tomorrow as i did some maintenance and made a couple small changes tonite so ill let everything settle back in before i take some new pics... plz mind the quality of the pics ahead of time
thanks for looking so far guys, i look forward to mingling with you all!
