Can anyone offer advice on why I am able to keep almost any sps I get except for the birdsnest. It always turns white on me and dies, from encrusted frags to small colonies, I am not sure what I am doing wrong.:frown: My tank is a year old, all my parimeters look like they're supposed to, 250w metal halides etc...

Based on the growth pattern, I would suggest strong flow to this type of coral. Usually the underside dies off some due to lack of flow and again, place in upper part of tank for maximum lighting after coral has been acclimated to your lighting system.

As for nipping, if you have fish that constantly nip at any corals, that in itself is a problem.

When you say turns white, do you mean it fades in color or the tissue melts off leaving a white skeleton?

As Deanos said, we really need your tank specs to help you accurately.

Tissue melts off leaving a white skeleton.

That is called RTN (Rapid Tissue Necrosis) aka DEATH! Don't confuse this with bleaching which is just a fading in color (coral still alive) This is most likely a water quality problem. Phosphate is usually the culprit. Most testkits are not capable of giving accurate reading at lower levels so you will see "0" when in fact they could actually be high.
Once again, you need to provide more info on your system for an accurate answer. Also, a picture is worth 1000 words as they say.

POST YOUR PARAMETERS! Otherwise we are just pi$$in in the wind.

guessing blindly, i'm betting it's an kH issue.

I have had alk swings in the past and the birdsnest is always the first to go.

But post your parameters and your method of supplying Ca and kH otherwise we are wasting time.
