it is likelt that he jumped out of you tank, jumped into an overflow, dug a hole behind rock that you cant see. i have 2 of them and sometimes the disappear for weeks. you just have to keep a mesh net or something to keep them from winding up on the floor. good luck

You checked the overflow?

The pistol shrimp clearly had something to do with it, only in the sense that it scared the BSJ. Your CUC could've eaten him up but you would notice weird activity from your inverts.

But like I said your Jawfish could be in a different hole under all your rocks and you just don't see him.

I have had 3 fish go MIA on me and never any idea what happened. The CUC would of taken care of him in the tank.
My tank is closed top so the fish didn't jump out.

It is the way of the aquarium sadly!

hopefully it ends well for you. Try feeding and see if he comes out!

Its funny you say this cause I have one and last night I was looking for mine and I couldnt find him so I asked my wife if she saw him during the day like she told me " I have nothing better to do but watch your damn fish" lol but she did say she saw him yesterday or the day before.. For a long shot she says would he be in the black thing(return) I said I dont think so but let me look.. Well he sure was there and alive too now it only took about an hour or 2 to get him out.. He is back in his den today.. But he was stressed yesterday.. Good luck.

sorry for your loss but yeah..no cover + easily freaked out fish =/. You should see what they act like even with the cover on, they scour/peek their heads above the water and constantly tried to jump out. My jawfish went through that 2-3 times in the past year due to my goby taking his house every now and then. He finally was fedup and dug a hole in the back where..nofood+stress and died.

Sorry about your jawfish.

A while back I had a fish only 75 gallon, and inside was a beautiful blue-ribbon eel. I had him for a while and he actually lived through a complete crash and even ate dried krill.

Anyhow, I came home from work one day and he was gone. I had a glass top and used that plastic trim in the back as best I could, but he must have squeezed out. Only problem was, I couldn't find him anywhere. Not behind the tank, under the couch. I started wondering how far he could have crawled.

About an hour later, I noticed the top of the emperor filter move. Turns out all 3 feet of him was up in there, doing fine.
