On the flip side, why are we hobbists paying so much for those fish? Like others said, supply and demand.

Also keep in mind.... you can find look downs at the fish market as well as many other fish you would keep.
Depending on where you go.... availability of local fish is meant for food.
People keep reef lobsters from the caribbean/hawaii in tanks..... well not for nothing, you can find those same spiny lobsters on dinner plates.
