I have a drilled tank and was wondering if adding internal overflow boxes would have any benefit? Right now I just have a elbow coming out of the bulkhead with a guard on it. Can I add overflow boxes with water in the tank? One problem I am having is its a pain in the butt to keep the suckers quite.

  • More surface water will be drained with a box than a elbow strainer - great idea IMO
  • Lower the water level in the tank and glue the box to the tank. Allow the glue/silicone to cure FULLY before refilling the tank - bad idea IMO

You could try playing around with the drain. Move it up or down to stop the noise. It might take a while to get it right but it is easier than putting the boxes in your tank. Can you take a pic of the drain so I could see how you have it positioned?

I can actually get it quite, Just have to play with again if I lose power or power off the system. Was thinking of the overflow boxes to get more surface skimming.
