Hey guys,

The tank is coming down for a new floor in the room, so I am upgrading stuff.

I started prototyping on my Faux built in project this weekend. I have removed the canopy and am going to put a facade on the stand. The new 'faux' canopy and the stand will be painted to match the room.

I think the pictures will make more sense than writing. :D

For some reason I remember something about how much you loved your stand and hood! Maybe it was cost?

Anyway, looks cool!

:D

Did love the stand and hood, and they were expensive!

However with the partial remodel of the room, the dark wood just looks oppressive, and the top of the canopy is just a place for junk.
I also upgraded from 5 250 watt DE pendants to 2 400 SE and lumenarcs, and I was going to have to box in the space over the canopy anyway - so we thought we would go all the way instead. BTW, I can't believe I waited this long to go with the 400's - less wattage, more light!

Righty, I think its going to look very sleek and stylish. Is the floor going to match the faux stand? Some sort of wood flooring would really punch it up. keep us updated on the progress :D

No code has to be inserted here.

I really like how you made no effort to hide how the top of the canopy was really used in that picture. :D

Nice bugs!

I agree.
My tank always has stuff sitting out around it until company comes, then when they leave, things start to creep out again...

I agree... My tank gathers clutter...

400w's less power than the 250's... i am missing something... is there less draw then the DE's?

Ben -

5 250's =1250 watts
2 400's =800 watts

:D

Martin -

Wood floor yes, but I was thinking of painting the new stuff to look like the wall so the whole thing looks like it as built into the wall.

Chris -
Thanks! We got lots in Thailand. Got a bat too! Next time I take pics, I'll snap some more.

Drained tank with initial framing uninstalled:

Framed, rocked, crown moulded and cute girl.

The rest of the framing will wait till the tank is back in place in about two weeks.

:D

Here is a bad one, when the mess was not yet at its peak. The idea always has been to redo the whole thing, once it was figured out. Ha! I'm even going to use pvc instead of tubing this time.

From this picture...

It looks like you could use the patented "knuckleflow" with some measure of success when you redo your plumbing....

I would use the knuckleflow, but all that goo was from me swishing the rocks before I moved them under the house. They should be almost finished 'cooking' now. Although, I could drill some holes in the bottom of the overflow...

The starboard arrived and I glued sand to it today. Two pieces, one for between the overflows and one for the front of the tank. I thought I was going to have to cut the bigger one in half to get it into the tank, but it dryfitted just fine.

I didn't scuff the starboard with sandpaper before gluing, I just used a lot of glue and it seems to be working fine. Tomorrow, I'll look for any areas that need to be filled in, then I will soak for a day or two to leach out the ickies.

The tank goes back up next weekend - waiting for the new hardwood floor to cure for 7 freaking days! I have to finish framing the thing in and them plumb it and get it filled by Sunday. Oy - if anyone wants to help, lemmie know! :D
