In light of the heat wave, it's a good time to keep the lights off for a day or two. Some of the benefits include keeping the chiller from working OT, especially for the MH heads. If you're having cyano problems, good time to keep the lights off to help with the issue (note I say "help", not a cure to the problem).

Reefing is not a energy conserving hobby. If enough of us keep the lights off during this time it could help take some load off from the demand the energy provider has to keep up with, considering even with LED we easily have hundreds of watts here, let alone not everyone is using LED yet.

Since I'm running LEDs the lights aren't sucking much electricity. It's the pumps and chiller that are killng me. The pumps in the sump heat up the water. The chiller keeps the tank cool but heats up the apartment which in turn means the AC comes on more often. I just got the bill for July and it was $520! I'm glad I'm on the level billing plan!

I'm moving at the end of the year and am going to take the opportunity to design an more efficient tank that generates less heat. Any suggestions?
