As crazy as it sounds, these fish sell out pretty quickly at $3,000.

Japanese hobbyists have been known to buy $10K+ fish 8O

Several of those white koi queens sold for $15K in Japan a while back 8O

Flowerhorns have also gone for big bucks, erm yen. Talk about ugly unnatural fish!

Flowerhorns don't exhibit any morphology that is any different or uglier than any number of naturally occuring Central American cichlids. They are actually quite attractive, looks are not the problem that most cichlid enthusiasts have with them. In fact they bear a strong resemblence to C. trimaculatum, a beautiful species which no doubt is one of the fish they were derived from.
The problem is that they are hybrids, and dangerous the integrity of naturally occuring bloodlines in the hobby.

I think Len would consider it. I know he has at least two not so cheap fish.

I couldn't spend $3K on any fish ... at least not at this point in my life. Someday, when I have a 1000 gallon, I'd consider it. :)

I've seen two gem tangs in person. Nice fish, but nothing jaw dropping.

A reef safe fish would need a bra before I would consider paying 3 grand...
