I am just curious as I don't want to be ignorant about how things are collected. In one of the links there is a picture of a large gathering of montiporas and another of stags. In those pics, how many of those would be collected? Surely not all of them right? Is there a percentage they would take and leave the rest or are the lenses in my glasses too rosey?

I can't speak for everywhere, but with those divers in Tonga, whole colonies are rarely collected, and then only if there are more in the direct area. They are careful to make sure there is coral left for later.

In fact the divers were being very careful to collect in as responsible a manner as possible long before we went to Tonga. They were quite adamant about it and struck me as a very ecologically sensitive group of divers.
This consciousness about resources also showed in comments made to me by the Minister of Fisheries, Minister of Forestry and a Princess I got to chat with.-Jim

Amazing....I just spent a half hour looking at that website and that project looks awesome! How many years did it take to arrange everything? Does the organization take donations?

Amazing stuff....are your corals being sold in the US yet, if so, through who?

Righty, just wanting to see who has any oversea digital farm film, for a potential dvd I'd like to produce

I'd like to make up a color literature with a dvd insert, that will include 2 dvd's,one showing the poverty that surrounds the farms and of the farms, & I would like it to be of where the maricultured coral come from if possible, and how they help support the counter of that, by buyin maricultured corals, sps level & potential(more receptive imo) sps status level hobbyists could watch this while they learn how to keep coral,as well as just others interested
mabey Indo is better for that type dvd..or is there alot of poverty there also
Also I am constructing a commercial greenhouse that I want to produce a coral propagation dvd out of to include in the literature, this way people can understand and retain, what I am talkin about when I try to explain, since there is so much to tell

I had a talk with a mariculturist a few years back,he said that he spent a fortune on his farm, and they just set out there since no one will buy them, over wild coral,I got some from him and they wont move over the wilds imo

So I started try'n to figure a marketing tactic

a visual tutation would be best imo

I don't think the cultured stuff has hit the market yet. The project is run by a private company - Jim and I were just consultants.
It took a year or two to get going depending where you start counting.

How about pictures of the corals and a picture of the princess?

Peter

I'll try to get a shot of the Princess. And the corals. They won't go up anywhere till a week or two after I get back - the internet connections in Tonga are less than perfect.

:D
