Hello,

So I'm moving in about three weeks and need some advice on moving my tank.

I have a 34G Solana with a 5in DSB. The whole tank was started in February.

My livestock list is as follows:

Blue Spot Jawfish
Two oscellaris clowns
Yellow wrasse
Two firefish
yasha haze goby
one cleaner shrimp
three peppermint shrimp
large CUC

Two large duncans (multi-heads each)
green torch (multi-heads)
gold torch
Acan echinata
multiple zoa's
one lobo
one piece of sps (just aquired two weeks ago)

If anyone knows of any great guides that would be awesome! If you want to take the time to put a step by step that would be great too, but I understand that is a tall order.

I'm only moving about 25 blocks here in manhattan so its not a huge move but it is a move none the less.

I spoke with my LFS and they quoted me a very hefty price to do this move. Basically I could buy a new, larger tank for that price and I'd prefer not to do so.

I'm ranting now...Thank you in advance.

36 gallon.

Id take all the coral out, put them in a thermal container. Same with the fish. Drain the tank 95% of the way. Put the rocks in 5g buckets.

Then move it all. Make sure you got some new saltwater mix to do a WC when you get there.

There you go.

Yeah its a easy move get a trash can put the rock and water in there with a power head then put the sand in 5g bucket rince it with water change water before u put it back. Move the tank and stand level it and then move the rock with water and start to fill it up fish ,coral is the last thing u move keep them in a bucket with air stone and a heater make sure temp is the same before u put them back .

My only suggestion in addition to Matthews great instructions is to transport the tank with 3/4 in. Plywood under it. Having moved mine not too long ago that made my trip less difficult and gave me peace of mind when in the car hitting more bumps than I expected.

The only concern I would have( which i think you have the same as well) is what to to with you 5 inch deep sand bed. I would try to move the tank with the sand in it with just enough water to cover it( so long it's not too heavy to be unsafe ) I would not want to rinse that sand bed.

I would not suggest disturbing that sand bed either.

Does your rock go all the way to the bottom of the tank? I'd remove any rock that is removable (above 'ground level'), keep it submerged (in its own bucket) and set it right back up as soon as it gets to its new location and do as Brendan suggested and move the tank on a piece of plywood.

OK, I have to put a plan together. There are many things going through my mind. Mostly things that I don't like about my current layout and the two things I don't like are how my sand bed looks, and two, I'm not a fan of my rockwork anymore.

A few other questions.
1. Is there anything I can do to make my jawfish a bit more comfortable during the move?

2. Should I consider running extra filtration, such as a diatom filter or carbon after I set everything up again?

The jawfish is going to be jumpy no matter what you do. Best thing to do is make sure it's in the dark when traveling. My goby stayed in the tank during the move. He was just fine but my move only took about an hour. I would run carbon after the move and setup.
