I was the lucky winner of the Vortech MP10w ES at the swap on Sunday. To my luck, I can't get it to attach to my tank. It seems that it's max glass thickness is 3/8" and my glass is 1/2" think. A whole entire 1/8" too thick to be able to use this.
Anyone know of any way to get it to work? or is my only option to sell it and buy a MP40/MP60 instead?

Did you try it yet? I have it on my Oceanic Tech which is at least 1/2". I basically hung it from the top of the aquarium via the cord, so the dry side pump is at the bottom. Zip ties are holding it in place. If I bump into it it sometimes comes loose, but it works just fine.

yup, tried it. it holds very lightly but so light that once it's turned on it instantly separates.

Even if i were to hang the dry side, the wet side falls off too.

I have MP40s no problem, didnt realize that the MP10 is intended only for thinner glass.

I think your only option is to give it to me free of charge:smoker:

Are you using it with or without the spacer?
there is no spacer on the MP10.
but i think you may be on to something with passing it on to you. did you buy a raffle ticket? should have pulled out a second number to see who would have been the runner up.

There is no spacer for the MP10.

When you power it on, if you are holding both ends you can move the ends around until they lock in place, at that point the dry end will not fly off of the glass. You can get them in sync by finding where the motor has the least resistance and sound. Make sure you have the pump on the low setting as this can cause the ends to separate.

As an FYI, the MP40 is much better for this size glass, but the MP10 works fine on my tank as long as I don't touch it.

I got an MP10 on a tank with 3/4" glass. Had the same problem as you. Eventually, I superglued the outer piece onto the tank. Works great now. When the time comes, I should be able to scrape the glue off with a razor blade (assuming your tank is glass).

yeah, i'm surprised they dont make the magnets strong enough for thicker glass. guess they figure tanks above that size would be buying the 40/60. but the 10 really puts out some nice flow for its size. would have been nice to mount on back wall facing front.

Kind of forces you to go with a 40. Genius on their part.
