Don't worry about these tanks I'll fix it, if my bid works I know I put in the lowest bid just to keep Staten Island reputable and the people doing it now are all about the money(short term),,,lol.. They really don't even have a clue how business works... Yes, I said it..
I met the SI Zoo Aquarist at last year's NERAC - I introduced myself in the hallway of some of the smaller exhibits and they didn't know what was in the exhibits - not a good sign.
As a native SI'er, I'd be willing to do an assessment of the tanks, their health and write it up to send to Bloomburg (since he's an enthusiast)
Any takers/assistants interested in taking the ferry ride?
I have not been in the terminal in a few months, but the tanks were once very overcrowded as well. Too little food, too little maintenance and too many fish is a recipe for disaster.
In the best of times, this tank would have problems. With the current budget problems the city is having, I highly doubt this will be a priority for Bloomberg or anyone else ( except Bob, so hopefully he gets it ).
Whoever setup these tanks had no idea as to what they were doing. the setup being entirely artifical is completey 20 times over populated. They are in direct sunlight too which is unforgiving to slightest water quality issues. To think that they spend 3 quarters of a million on this setup is sickening.
