I had a bottle of this junk lying around and rather than dose b ionic like I normally do, I thought Id try a capful of liquid reef by brightwell. My stylo instantly tightened up and looks like sh$% 10 hours later still. One of my green table tops also lost all of its polyp extension but is coming back nicely now. Idk wth kind of crap is in that liquid reef that caused this to happen... Ive always been wary of one part calcium additives, but its got some other trace elements I thought would benefit the tank. I NEVER thought it would cause the reaction it did, at worst i figured it would be benign and just not do anything. I am extremely dissapointed with this product and if my stylo (a gorgeous piece that came from reefbum) doesnt make it, I will be forced to begin a campaign against brightwell products to avenge my fallen coral!

Anyone else ever had a similiar reaction from liquid reef or purple up (a similar product)?

Neither do much of anything. What is in the bottle is just powdered aragonite, which is almost inert. The powder probably settled on the coral and acted as a irritant. The so called ability of either of these to do much of anything for Ca++, Mg++ or Alk is more or less gibberish nonsense.

Been using all brightwell products including liquidreef and have had no negative effects from them.

How long have you had the product "laying around"? And why would you take a chance adding something that you weren't completely sure would not harm the tank?

i have used brightwells salt, calcium and alk two parts dosers, and wow what a mistake. i used coralife salt since i first started 2 years ago and decided to go with brightwells because i was told it was the latest and greatest. i was having problems w/ the high calcium and low alk that coralife salt as giving me so i said ... lets give it a try. used brightwells for a month... i do weekly water changes... and holy moly... my tank went to ruins. my alk was way too high ... and corals definitely didn't like this salt. thank god for seachem's salinity aqua vitro.... and the other lfs that told us about it. my tank is back in full swing 2 months in to the aqua vitro switch... and boy things haven't looked so bright and healthy.

IMO brightwells is badnews... the creator was released from kent marine for some reason...must not have been good and now i know why.

I used it 1. because I was being stupid and 2. because theres plenty of brightwell stuff that I use (reef bio fuel, mb7, magnesium) that work fine.

The bottle is not more than 2 months old.
