I use either aragalive sand or natures ocean live sand. Crushed coral and gravel tend to turn into nitrate factories.

Let me know how it is if you use it. $40 for 15 pounds is certainly up there.
I'm tempted to use sand but I like being able to see where the detritus is and cyphon it out.

I am not sure if i am gouing to use this grade,but in the past i did use the same size1-2mm and didnt have any problem. My tank was perfect at that time..about 4 years ago.
