Rubber-band On A Green Leather

I put a green finger leather on a plug and wrapped part of the trunk an it seemed like it was cutting circulation per say. I took the rubber band off an the trunk shrunk a lot, it basically looks like it got cut in half. Is this normal? Will it heal?

If you remove the rubber band it will regrow.

Normally, if you leave the rubber band on long enough it will cause the coral to split into two. It won't harm the coral.
