Electrically inlined persons....

215 gallon reef in a first floor apartment.

1 outlet/two plugs - two power strips rated up to 2000 watts each.

Is this doable? I "estimate" that I should hit close to 15-16 amps.

I am assuming that the kitchen circuit is going to be about 20 amps. I guess we will have to wash dishes at night when the halides go off....LOL

I live in an old building with circuits from the early 60s. No problems at all running a 400 watt halide and everything else, along with a TV and room lights, all on the sam circuit.

I would just test it all and see if you trip the breaker. If you do, you might then have to worry about what else you run on the circuit at the same time as the halides.

I would probably be more worried about the floor joists than the electric load. I sure hope that it's a good load bearing floor! I suppose, just be sure, that your are running that on a 20 amp breaker.

He said 1st floor.

Anyway, lots of people live on concrete construction. No floor joists in apartment buildings in Miami for example. I could have a 400 gallon in my apartment.

That is correct.
All water furniture must be on the first floor which I'm guessing is concrete.

I believe I am going to have to spray paint an extension cord the wall color and run it from the living area, up and over a door to the tank. Won't look terrible, but it's gatta be done. I'm sure apartment breakers are probably 15 amp circuits and I still need some power for a closed loop and controller.

Test it first, before you go running cords accross the room. You might be surprized at how much that circuit can take. The 400 watt halide doesn't suck that much power. And other than that it's just a few pumps and fans.

Yeah I guess we will see. I am guessing, however, that if I run close to maxing this circuit out, kicking on the oven is going to kill the entire circuit.....

It will be long while before I have procured all of this equipment, so I guess we will see in time.
