Let me know how you make out with those rebates ;) an average 1200-1500 sq ft home w be over your 30k, even for a tied in system. Have you priced solar rate tracking systems? Do/will you have the correct, useful exposure to maximize the panels output? Things to know before pricing out.

There are 2 club members who have and Paul B here on MR who I know have done it, granted most of these went in when the rebates were high but haven't looked into it personally.... I know why my LIPA bill is high :fish:

Your looking at a little more than $30K my friend. Now take into account the room to house the battery system needed for nighttime and extended overcast periods of to mention the maintenance cost associated w those batteries. I do standby emergency power systems for a living. The average homeowner has no idea of the maintenance , safety features and cost involved in a whole house solar power system.

A guy in my firehouse at work paid $38,000 for a system that makes it to where it now costs him next to nothing to run his house. Another paid just over $40k but his house is bigger than mine would ever be.

I said 30 grand as a give or take aka roundabout figure.

I again AM HAVING A HOUSE BUILT so the room will be no issue. I'm into some crazy stuff electrically in my other hobby so battery maintenance I'm used to. I also will not be doing it here- it will either be in Florida or North Carolina, wherever I decide to buy. Not in NY where it costs $5 to take a dump.

Another note, I'm ex military, and a NYC firefighter as well so I'm not the average person now a days that never worked on anything or never had a tool in my hand. I can do maintenance on most things myself because I learn the ins and outs of each compnent of anything that I get involved in.

I also never said I was gonna be off the grid- just barely on it.

I also will still say it's still more than worth the investment, even at lets say $50k. It will still pay off multiple times its cost seeming I'm only 35 and will have the savings after installation for 45 years or better god willing. Plus when I leave the house to whoever it'll go to they'll not have to pay a dime for the system except for panel replacement etc. throughout the years of them owning it.

Sounds like you have it all worked out.

FYI if utility companies didn't get federal aid when natural disasters wipe out their lines and transformers no one would have power period!!! The money is used to rebuild and restore our lives!!! Be happy you live in a country that you generally have heat, electric, hot, running, water just about every day of the year.

Not saying the system is the best but omg we really don't have it too hard here!!!!

Yes government can help in forms of LOAN not free giveaway. There are also commercial banks too in case we don't want the government to become too socialist.

In general, these free giveaways for financial stricken commercial entities, go into the pockets of the share holders(better to say stack holders including those who got semi monopolistic contracts with LIPA/LIPA case is slightly more complicated though) when the entity is becoming profitable again. You see these corporates only cry for help when they are in the red but NEVER broadcast their earnings when they are in the blue unless some share players want to hype up the share prices. UT companies should also arrange insurance policies for natural disasters even though most insurance companies would not want to engage in such as they know as most UT and semi monopolistic commercial entities can simply put their two hands out to the government like subway pan handlers whenever they are in hard times. FYI, pan handling is illegal in most parts of NYC if not ALL parts of NYC. So a (may be) poor individual cannot pan handle while smart high paid executives can.
