I just finished moving my 40 gallon, and stand sump by my self. It wasn't pretty, but when is moving a fish tank fun? I posted a little while ago about pump maintenance because my 5 month old mag 7 stopped. I ended up soaking it in a toilet bowl cleaner that had hydrochloric acid in it. The pump looked new, but unfortunately still did not work. I was upset, but figured it was a one off. After moving all of my stuff, hooking the plumbing back up, I fired up the return. A few clicks and clunks, then nothing. No F***ing way! Took the pump apart and there was similar buildup. Immediately soaked the pump. No go. It won't start either. Needless to say, NOW I AM pissed and out $140. My tank is barely running without a return or my sump or skimmer. My super Krappo Rio pumps are still mixing my salt water from years ago (in storage for 4 years now back in action). Is this a common occurance for mags? Are they having quality issues? I need 2 pumps to replace them (mag 7 and I was going to bump up to a mag 9 for the return) but am very hessitant to get mags. Any other viable options? Sorry for the rant, but when I spend good money I epect things to last - I wasn't even being my procrastinate lazy self about maintenance either. I just assumed 5 months wasn't that long.
