Just lost my yellow tang and hippo tang....from what I have read I think it's velvet.Hippo had some white spots but the yellow tang showed no sign of anything just turned up dead.I got a hospital tank and treated it with copper and put the hippo in but still lost him...this sucks.

Yes everything is in check....tank has been running for 2 years,the hippo was the latest addition 2 weeks ago.

did you QT the hippo before putting him in the DT? if so did it show any signs then?

Yes I qt him and nothing was visible but I only qt him for 3 days

Sorry for your loss, really devastating losing a fish/es as we get so attached to some of them.
I am "now" a firm believer that every new fish that makes to my DT has/needs to go through copper and prazipro treatment for at least 2 weeks but I go 3 weeks.
With that being said, I've seen some people say that they QT'ed their newly acquired but in reality, some have only had them there for observation purpose.
Remember, not all the fishes are going to show signs of disease during those short period of time.
