Thread Fin butterflies

Are these guys reef safe? I thought I saw them in someones tank pics recently but not sure if it was the Thread fins.

I had one and was told that they were but it started to eat all my mushrooms within the tank didn't really touch anything else though.

Are you referring to the Heniochus?

Threadfin is also called the Auriga butterfly fish. They are not reef safe as far as I know. I had big one in a FOWLR that loved eating aiptasia. He was great. I would imagine it would eat mushrooms, zoas, lps, etc.
I know there have been some members that locally caught Spotfin butterflies and kept them in their reef tanks. Maybe that is the fish you are thinking of.
