I first got this tiger tail sea cucumber a few years ago... before this guy there wasnt another cucumber in the tank nor was one introduced after him. In any case, this morning I was having a looksy in my tank and I noticed my little buddy... and then I noticed ANOTHER little buddy on the other side of the tank!!

It kinda made my morning to see that my tiger tail spawned.

I couldnt find any info online about sea cucumber spawning. The reproduction had to be done asexually since there wasnt another in the tank.

It was hard to gauge but both of them looked to be about the same size give or take an inch or two (i would say about 6") - which doesnt really make sense. Is it possible that cuc's reproduce via splitting themselves?

I have a 72g tank, I guess I'm going to haave to try and find the 2nd cuc a new home..

Ill try and get some pics up but its a bit hard since theyre usually in odd places.

This one had about another couple of inches wedged under a rock. That part of the body was not-streched - when these guys stretch out they can really stretch...
Sorry for the bad picture - I blow all my money on the hobby. Wish I had some cash to spare for a decent camera... lol

As I understand it, cukes are somewhat like anemones, in that when they get bigger or if they get stressed, they can reproduce by splitting. 'Grats, you got two for the price of one! ;)

mine divided itself more than a year ago, and I have a 55 gallons. I guess it depends on the amount of sand that is available to them to sift. Enjoy as you will be able to see at least a cuc daily.
