I'm starting up a new tank soon and i'm at a crossroads with the sand color. I went through this last time also. I currently have pink Fiji sand or I think Fiji. But now i'm thinking of going with a black sand. I don't want to do it and then regret it later. What do you guys think? I know I'm the one that has to look at it but I would like your opinions.

I just built my new 75 rimless. I have a painted black and I wanted to go with all black sand. Then I asked a similar question. I found that most people will tell you to stay way from the black sand. It actually gets dirty and then small pieces of rock break off and you will get all little white bits. Then any detritus will not be black so any that sits on the sand will be visible.

I decided against the black and went with a courser grain white sand.

Black aragonite isn't jet black it's more like a dark grey and the grains aren't uniform. Plus if you have detritus sitting on your sand you have some real issues with your tank anyway. It's more personal preference but every display I have used the black aragonite in has always gotten a lot of positive feedback. When it's done right it's impressive.

This is the "Black Aragonite"
