Here are some pics of the MACNA sump we built. The bottom was done in UV blue acrylic (about $500.00 per sheet). We lit it up under a black light box that housed to UV lamps (black lights) to get the desired effect from the UV acrylic. The sump was cut on our laser saw (cuts 9' x 4' sheets up to 1 1/4" thick acrylic. The bottom was then moved over to the laser engraving table for the name and logo engraving. The baffels are removable by the way. If you look close you will see the 4" OD canister holders and 3 probe holders on the back wall of the sump. On the 2nd and 3rd day of the show we added water and hooked up the Peltec chiller/heater and raised the temp down to 49 degrees and then bumped it up to 140 just for fun. Maybe we should have chilled some beverages at the booth...hmmm maybe next year at MACNA :).

You can see some more of our work here:

The last picture was the coral we had at our booth. All of the corals were purchased at the show.

Scott,

Like the UV acrylic and engraving, looks good.

I was just thinking about the laser saws and I read from James at envision acrylics (and others) that he doesn't think they should be used for machining sheets. That they have a high chance of crazing and you can't get flat 90deg cuts (an issue when gluing and strength). Im guessing maybe because they have to cut down and then across at the same time, as opposed to routers which just cut across. Have you had any issues or read anything about that?

Oh yeah, do the baffle sections hold water eventhough the baffles are removable?

Paul,

crazing is not an issue for us but I won't go into detail here. The removable baffles will not hold water for a long time in the event that power goes out but this is not an issue if it does. Water very slowly leaks out between the rail and baffle wall when the pump is turned off. It could take an hour or more for the water to fully level out in the sump. They slide in and out easily but we have it setup so no bubbles can get past the baffles. Keep in mind this is simple just an example of the sump work we can do. We build other aquarium products and many different styles of sumps to customer specifications. Every sump is custom...
