its been 4 years and i still have no coraline. maybe seeding it with coraline will help. so if anyone is cleaning their tank and can grab some scrapings for me LMK
thanks
tank is a 75g with a 29g sump, 8x54w t5, 2 reactors for gfo and carbon, msx200 skimmer, cheato in a chamber of the sump.
i do 20g water changes 1-2 times a month. recently been using red sea pro salt,i was using reef crystals but it always left a brown slime in my brute.
the tank is all softies, and when i do get my water tested at absolutely fish in clifton, my cal, alk and mag are usually in a good range..
my ph hovers around 8, maybe a little lower, i have seen some test early in the day test as low at 7.8
I have pink coralline all over and I think 2 factors really helped it grow in my case:
- Dosing w. C-Balance (adds cal., buffer, mag, etc.). This was on the advice of more experienced reefers, and I can testify that when I increased the dose the coralline growth really accelerated.
- Blue light. I had no coralline at all at first except on imported frags until one Friday I upgraded my light to an LED w. 4RB/1CW shining directly on the frag w. the pink coralline. By Monday the pink had spotted around the rock. The folks at GARF also say blue light is needed to grow coralline, so I don't believe it was a coincidence.
No doubt there are other factors; I just know about these 2. Good luck!
start doing more water changes... I rarely dose... and after several months I have coraline growing all over the place and with short light periods as well.
