How about sticking super market clams into your sump? I dunno if anyone would approve of this but I added about 4 to my sump and it never did any harm. You jus gotta make sure they are alive and stay alive

I am currently an aquarium adventure slave. We have oysters that would serve your purpose. Not sure how much they are though. I dont think they are that expensive. Maybe 15 bucks. They are like half the size of a credit card. Hope this helps.

My little necks are living happily in the Miracle Mud and sometimes they would come out and then burrow back into the bottom. Researchers say they should be in packs, so I pack them in my Ecosystem 60.

Hmm if I don't have enough food for dinner, may be I should dig them out. :lol_large

Cleaner clams usually reduce nitrate (consumption) and when nitrates are down, they usually consume amonia as well, and also some of what snails do in the tank.

REEF GUY - I am not quite sure how the ones from the super market will work out, can you elaborate for us, did yours reduce nitrate (primary purpose), amonia, life expectancy?....

Superfiend1313 - Oysters, are they good for nitrate and amonia reduction, and for $15 can we agree that's a good price, do you sell them, any pics?

Dean - if it comes to it I will try to organize a group buy (not just the clams) but enough to take advantage of the free shipping.

Thanks all
Rudy

IPSF has them along with other critters... http://www.ipsf.com/

Problem with the ones from the supermarket ones is that they are from cold water and will probably do more harm then good when they die. Most bivalves filter the water, though the effect may not be that dramatic.

I had them a while ago I may have like 1 or 2 left give a call and I'll see if I have any left. If I'm not in ask for Olivere. They are also called sand sifting clams or filter clams

hey
the oysters are good for nitrate consumption, and for particulate filtration. Currently there are 3- 5 in the store. Sorry they are 25 bucks if your fish club they are 18.75. If you want pics I'll take some when I work on weds and post them after 9 when I get off.
