Unfortunately over the past few weeks a bunch of my zoa frags melted away...not sure what caused this but over the next month or so I would like to replenish the zoas I lost... the following list contains the zoas I lost

Nightmares
Darth Mauls
Space Monsters
Armor of Gods - - - NOW HAVE :)
Mary Janes
Tequilla Sunrise- - - NOW HAVE :)

I'd rather not go too far for these ... seaford to medford is pretty much the travel range for me.

Please PM me if you have any of these that can be fragged

This list is off the top of my head...I may be missing some ... feel free to PM me with any zoas that you can frag that are nicely colored.

Thanks,
Joe

Yes....I do in fact have a lot of those stars...the only thing that will control them are harlequin shrimp right?

Also does anyone know why zoas will flip inside out...meaning instead of being a flat disc shape...they look more like a mushroom or umbrella shape

Right, they'll take out any starfish (aside from brittles). You might not have the species that eats zoas, but if you notice a lot of them and your zoa populations decreasing, it's something to consider. I had some bad ones hitchhike in and lost every single one of my zoas :(.

When your zoas are in the umbrella shape, are their stems extended a lot?

Join the club. Vitamin c seems to help but some just melt away for no reason .... I suggest not wasting your money .... If you add them again.. They will just melt again... It's so frustrating

they could be receiving too much light. my magician polyp was umbrella-ing and i moved the frag to a spot with less light and a few days later it went back to normal

see thats what i thought too and i placed them almost in a shaded area...really low in the tank and it seemed like they got worse after about 2 weeks... i think its just the mystery of zoas.

speaking of which... ive gotten mixed answers on the following question... i was wondering what everyone else thought

WHAT DO ZOAS NEED/LIKE??

I've read and heard that Mag is a big thing with them and they like dirty water?? i wanted to see what the general consensus on MR was

Thanks

i hear iodine but thats a disputed issue. i've grouped them close together because i hear they grow faster to compete for space.

Zoas

I have a ton of different Zoas in my tank. some melted away and those starfish where on them quickly. I don't think they actually eat a healthy Zoa or Paly but ones that are already on there way out. I only lost a small colony of King Midas out of a bunch. If you lost all your Zoas then I would not consider putting any back in your tank. I would find out exactly what took them all out. water quality? any pests other than stars? lighting? etc. just my opinion.

If they are grouped together would they choke each other out? For example I have a rock that has the brown/green button polyps on them...I put in the center a 10 polyp frag of mohawks and the mohawks are taking over...or so it seems

This is why I keep my mohawks in my sand on a plate to avoid possible take over
